1,000 Books before Kindergarten (1000 BBK) is an established program in which libraries across the country participate. The goal is for a child to have read or be read 1,000 books before entering kindergarten. It is an initiative to help build a solid foundation for literacy acquisition in children and encourage family reading engagement.
Upon completion of every 100 books, the participant can come to the library to obtain their ‘Brag Tag’ prize and to take a commemorative picture documenting their achievement.
Upon completion of the 1,000 books, participants will be able to collect their ‘Brag Tag’, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Canvas Bag, Certificate of Completion, and their commemorative photo.
Put reading first, with 20 minutes a day spent reading to your children. Make it fun and exciting. Be imaginative. If you read just 1 book a day, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years, and 1,095 books in just three years!
